Project Quilting 17.1 “A Clean Slate”

It is my favorite time of year.. time for Project Quilting! Season 17 is happening and the first challenge is “A Clean Slate”

My rules this year are:

  1. Use only stash.. no special purchases
  2. Either make another bug for my series or make a charity quilt for my guild.

Trish usually does something related to the Pantone color of the year. This year the very WHITE color chosen by the company stirred up a lot of controversy. All I could think about is our current political situation and the white narcissism (not calling it supremacy because the movement is more about fragility and insecurity than supremacy) that is blinding so many US citizens.

I started grabbing all my white and off white strip scraps and did a stich and flip method on a base. After I had my base, I knew I wanted to stitch words… I thought of all the words that our current adminstration has banned from all federally funded programs.  I used a light grey because I wanted the text to be subtle and almost hidden.

As I shared with my artsy friends, I wasn’t sure what kind of bug would fit this piece. My friend Anna pointed me to the Neopalpa donaldtrumpi, a moth named due to it’s orange coloring. Even though all my prior bugs have been beetles, I felt like this moth was meant to join the rest of the series.

This piece is called “White Washing”

Since I don’t update here often enough.. follow me on instagram to see more of what I’m working on.
